Fisher-Price Star Station Entertainment System

Now your child can be a rock star on TV. With the Star Station Entertainment System kids sing into the microphone to perform favorite songs, all while watching and hearing their performance “live” on the television screen. The base unit uses plug-n-play technology to easily hook up to your TV, allowing performers to see and hear themselves as they put on their show. You can even record performances by connecting to a VCR or DVD player as well if your TV has audio/video input jacks (more…)

I was really excited to give this to our daughter for her 3rd birthday- she adores singing and is super outgoing. Unfortunately, the microphones aren’t great and it is difficult to hear her singing. The song selections also were disappointing, she of course, loves the Dora one. The Princess one doesn’t have many “popular” princess songs. I wish I could really recommend this product, but I wish I had boxed it up and sent it back. Should have just bought a high quality microphone!

I bought this toy in October and since then have seen many negative reviews about the quality of the picture and microphones. I was nervous to see how well it worked after we gave it to our twin 3-year-olds for a Christmas gift this morning.

They are playing with it right now and having a lot of fun. I’m not sure why so many others are hating on this toy other than they must be over-reacting and expecting too much out of a $50 toy. The camera is basically a web-cam and the quality is fine. It’s not HD but still looks fine even blown up on our 60-inch TV (which I was anticipating to be a problem).

The microphones aren’t exceptional but, again, are what I would expect out of a toy made for toddlers and preschoolers. They are so excited to see themselves on the TV and hear themselves through the speakers. The cartridge that comes with the system includes Wheels on the Bus, This Old Man, If You’re Happy and You Know It, and Row, Row, Row Your Boat. How are others saying it includes songs kids don’t know? We also got the Animal Songs cartridge with Old MacDonald, BINGO, and Itsy Bitsy Spider – which are all favorites thus far.

I guess my point is to know what your expectations are and shop accordingly. If you’re looking for HD pictures and concert-quality microphones, plan on shopping outside of a toy store and spending thousands of dollars. If you’re just looking for something for your kids to pretend and have fun, this is a good toy.

The other thing to think about is that there are two versions out there so it’s hard to tell which reviews are for which toy. I noticed Amazon shows one as the picture in the search results but the detailed description shows a picture of the other. One is green, orange & purple with 5 lenses for creating special video effects. The other is purple, red and white with only a single camera. We have the single camera version.

I hesitated to purchase this toy because of all the negative reviews but decided to try it anyway because my 2 1/2 yr old grandson loves to perform. I hooked it up before Christmas to test it. Following the directions on light placement made a huge difference. Although I think the microphone sound could be improved, my grandson loved it. It was his absolute favorite toy and believe me he got a lot of toys. He recognized himself immediately and within minutes was moving the camera to put others in the spotlight and bring them in on the act. If your child likes to sing or dance this TOY (remember it is a toy) will be a hit.
