This project has a strange mixing of extreme positive and negative reviews, particularly recently. Now, some of those negative reviews are due to people who are complaining without buying it because they say the earth is flat… so if that’s your viewpoint, let’s just say you shouldn’t buy a globe but shouldn’t be reviewing one either. Go review a map or something. But those aside, there are still some really negative reviews, which sometimes makes me skeptical of whether the positive reviews are real or if those people got it for free, etc.

As a result, I was skeptical when I bought this, but my verdict is that I love it. And more importantly, our 6 year old daughter does. I know several reviewers have complained about the buggy app, so I think it may not work on as many different phones and operating systems as Shifu claims. I know I tried to install it on my daughter’s “phone” (and yes, my 6 year old daughter has a phone but it’s our old iPhone 6 with the SIM card removed that just has music and education apps installed on it), the app did NOT work correctly, even though the phone is running the current iOS version. However, I put it on my iPhone 8 and had NO issues finding it, installing it or using it. Considering our 6 year old can and does use my phone by herself to use and learn about various places around the globe, it seems to be designed to work pretty easily for most people.

So I highly recommend it. I was a little skeptical about the whole “globe with no countries” thing that I’ve also seen some people complain about. I’m definitely not into new-age education (in fact I’m a college business professor), but I don’t have a problem with it. I think the globe would be too busy if it had all the country lines AND the pictures on it designed to captivate kids attention. And when you use the app to learn about a place, you can see country flags and whatnot. Maybe in a future version it can show you the country boundaries if you want to see them, which would be nice.

I purchased this for my 4 year old who it obsessed with geography and although he loves it, a few features leave him frustrated. One of them being the app on the Amazon Fire kids tablet is useless because it is not configured to read the globe with such a low quality camera. Also with the size of an average tablet, it’s hard for little ones to hold it focused on the globe and tap the screen. I have to give my son my smaller iPhone to use it without aggravation.

Also with the app, upon initial use, it takes forever to download all of the content on all platforms. There has to be a better way. There just has to. All of the countries aren’t even included in the content. Large chunks of info are missing from Africa and South America, not Europe though (side eye). With a borderless globe, if there’s no info on certain countries, they are erased from history so developers need to get that together ‘cause it’s an issue.

Another fail would be the globe’s stand. It’s not secured onto the globe in a way meant for children who are active and want to carry it around, so the globe does escape it periodically. Because of this, our stand is already broken.

Now for the positive, the info that’s on there is useful and my son loves reciting it. The app’s graphics are great and keeps the attention of a rambunctious 4 four year old and even myself.

My kid could not stop playing with this as soon as I opened it he started asking me what it was, and how it worked. As I explained to him that that was where we lived, but we were in a small part of it. He was amazed he has only three so this shocks me his aware of these things.

I gave this to my 4 year old for his birthday and it has been a huge hit!

The toy comes with a really cute globe that has pictures of various animals and monuments instead of the traditional country borders (bonus – really cool room decor). Once you install an app on your phone/tablet, you allow access to your camera and it automatically synchs with the globe when it registers the little stars on the globe. Various things will pop up on the screen in a virtual reality simulation. The child can move around the globe and will view different things depending on what part of the world they are hovering over. It’s the coolest thing ever – I was so impressed when I saw it!

You can explore animals, monuments, cultures, food, flags and much more! Your child can click on the images that pops up and it brings them into another screen that is sort of like an encyclopedia with various facts and little games.

I like that this is an interactive game and is educational, so it doesn’t feel as though he’s just blindly sitting behind a screen; he’s actually learning!

The only thing I would caution is to ensure your tablet or phone is compatible with the device before purchasing as the app may not work on some older models.

Definitely a great educational toy for kids (I’d say around 4 is a great age to start).

I bought this for my 4-year-old granddaughter. She is enthralled with it all. I was positive that she would lean towards animal learning, as she is 4 years old and something of the subject matter they learn towards. To my surprise, she wanted to know about the different countries, different traditions, etc., and the animal subjects were last on the list. She loves to spin the globe around and scan the QR code with the tablet, review each subject, and take the quizzes. Sure wish this was around when I had my young children. Great education tool without the kids feeling like it’s a chore, task, or even punishment. Love, Love, Love product!

Bought this to help my 5 year old learn geography. Here are my thoughts after using it for several months:

    Pros:

    – Interactive app brings globe to life – The AR component makes learning about animals, culture, and geography fun through games, sounds, and interactive elements. My kids are captivated.
    – Appealing visuals – The illustrated animals and environments on the globe look great and draw the kids in. – Vibrant colors and cute creatures get their attention.
    – Expansive content – With so many places and animals to explore, there is a ton of information for them to discover. Enough to keep them learning for months.
    – Games reinforce lessons – Activities like feeding animals their preferred foods reinforce what they learn about habitats and diets. Very clever.
    – Passport sticker book – The included passport and stickers encourage them to engage and “travel” to different places. A creative bonus.
    – Works for range of ages – Older kids get more from the detailed content. Versatile for siblings.

    Cons:

    – App can be glitchy – We’ve encountered some tech issues getting it to sync properly, especially in low light. When it works, it works wonderfully.
    – Typos and errors – I’ve noticed some spelling and grammar errors in the app content. Needs a bit better proofing.
    – Country boundaries not shown – The globe itself is missing country lines. Would be nice to toggle those on via the app for context.

Overall, the Orboot AR globe was a decent educational toy buy. The integrated app makes interacting with the globe fun and dynamic. I would recommend this educational toy. Hope this helps.

The same globe has changed my 5 years old daughter personality. After 6 months of using the product, she know nearly 100 countries. It triggered her curiosity about different cultures and languages. I was surprised that she went on YouTube and learnt to count 1 to 10 in Portuguese inspired by the globe.
