Bought for my son because he loves outterspace and rocks and necklaces so it was a win win! It is very messy, so I’d do it outside or lay down newspaper to keep the mess at bay. The kids loved finding the stones, learning about them solar system, and get to wear the necklace after finding all of the stones. Definitely buy for kids that enjoy making messes and digging. I buy a lot of National Geographic and this product was comparable to my surprise. My daughter Loved that these were planets, that’s why I chose this brand and not National Geographic. I liked that this one was a challenge, it didn’t just break right open and she actually had to work on it. This took her two sessions of an hour to get all of them broke open so it’s a great time passer. Most dig kits she digs up so fast it’s over in fifteen minutes so I like that this took work and time. The necklace was a good addition too. The tools could have been easier to use. Maybe something metal that digs in better than the plastic pegs. We actually used a metal spoon instead of the pegs to dig these gems.

My three boys ages 8-10 loved doing this rock dig. The rocks were really pretty and they liked matching them to the information cards it comes with. The chalk was pretty difficult to dig through which I think is a good thing because it made it last longer. They also really loved making the necklaces and we bought more necklace supplies because they wanted to make every rock into a necklace. Just know that this is an outdoor craft. The chalk would make a big mess in the house.

I ordered one of these kits and a few things were missing. I contacted Amazon and the seller sent a new kit immediately. They were wonderful and I would highly recommend both the seller and their product. It was perfect and the kids had so much fun digging their gemstones out of the planets. The gemstones in this kit are definitely larger than those you normally get in one of these digs. The cards helped identify which stones they were and they got to put their favorites in the “cage” necklace. Except that their favorites kept changing! Luckily, you can remove one stone and replace it with another very easily. They had a blast! Thank you to the seller for being so great!!!
