I gave this toy four stars because of the price and the fact one of the designs on the box you can’t do. The imagine second to the left on the box at the bottom can’t be done. Don’t get me wrong you can make the shapes but you can’t balance the diamond shape on top of the triangle. Otherwise, I found this toy fun as well as it makes you use your imagination. On the box it said you use in conjunction with the Geode Sphere which I had. Just playing around with it I made a cute little butterfly. I can’t wait to see what else I can make with both shapes. Speks toys are well made & this one is no different. The magnets are strong without being annoyingly strong. The plastic part are well made & the blue color is really nice. Just fooling around with the pieces is comforting. I think it’s a great fidgeting toy. Pictures of this toy are deceiving. It’s very small another reason why it should be cheaper. The pieces sides are about an inch & a half. I hope the pictures help showing how big it is.

I ordered these triangle (pyramid) SPEKS along with the octagon SPEKS. After playing with each for a while I feel the number of possible 3D combinations is much greater with the triangles than with the octagon SPEKS. However, I have not mixed the two types to see what I can come up with using all 24 pieces. I ordered the blue triangle SPEKS. Each triangle is dark blue on one side and clear on the opposite side. So in addition to playing with the build combinations you can also experiment with color variations.
The section of my review that follows is borrowed from my review for the octagon SPEKS toy.
Knowing that the little silver piece at each edge center is actually a rare earth magnet I could not understand why all of the magnet norths seemed to magically align with the magnet souths. Upon close-up inspection I realized that the silver section is a tiny sphere (with the rare earth magnet inside). The silver spheres automatically rotate to achieve north/south alignment. Pretty darn ingenious. These only work because they use strong rare earth magnets. These would not work well if they used non-rare earth magnets. I’m going to give this ‘Adult Toy’ a five star rating because, for what it is, it’s well made, very nice creative design and should last a life time.

My middle schooler loves these. They are a fidget of sorts (though obviously too noisy and distracting for school), and he loves making random figures with them. He has asked for more sets to build bigger things. If they were cheaper, I’d oblige! I enjoy fidgeting with them too; they make a satisfying click when the pieces connect.

I love toys like this and this one is no exception. Nice construction, strong magnets and durable plastic. Helps keep my hands busy while on a phone call, reading or watching videos.

In my home, we love anything magnetic. These are similar to the magnetic tile-type toys that are on the market, except on a smaller scale. These do seem to be sturdy and well-built, and the colors are pretty. The magnets are strong and hold fast to each other. These make for an interesting fidget toy and “coffee table” item, but offer little else as far as entertainment value. There are only a dozen in the pack, so they don’t offer any real building opportunities. Everyone in my household really lost interest in them after only about 5 minutes, whereas magnetic tiles will keep us occupied for the better part of an hour, at least. These aren’t something I would spend this kind of money on. I do not feel these give a lot of bang for your buck in that there isn’t a whole lot that can be done with them. For the size of the tiles and the amount per pack, I would recommend saving a little extra and opting for an actual magnetic tile-type toy (these occupy attention for much longer). Even as a desktop accessory, I don’t feel the price point makes this a good value.
AMENDED: This product CLEARLY states that these items are NOT intended for children as they contain strong magnets. With this product warning, I did not allow my toddler to play with them. Of course, she managed to get a hold of them anyway. There are many magnetic toys on the market, however, I don’t think these should be excluded as a viable play option for small kids. As with ANY magnetic toys, these should only be allowed with direct supervision. Out of all of my family members, my youngest has engaged with these the most and seems to really enjoy playing with them. She even threw them around a bit and demonstrated their durabilty. They can withstand rough play well. And because of the small size, these are a really portable play option, which I hadn’t considered before. They will likely travel with us on outings to keep her entertained. These can be used with a light box too since the pieces are translucent. I increased my rating because these are good quality and have more applications than I originally considered. If I were to purchase more, I would pay for the better quality rather than buying something generic, although I stand by my original opinion in that I still feel these are a bit pricey considering full sized tiles can be purchase for a small amount more.
