Too many times I’ve purchased something thinking it was metal based on the pictures and/or an erroneous description, only to be disappointed. This cryptex is not only metal, it’s actually better in person than in the pictures. AND it came with extra parts, clear instructions, and charming little extra bits that are not critical to the function of the item, but lend that much more to the overall enjoyability of using it.

This is a very cool looking gift with a nice presentation box. It is very heavy for it’s size so it feels very solid. It’s designed to give to a girlfriend but it works great for an older child/teenager. It’s easy to just take the plastic rings out and replace with good old cash – or how about a REAL NICE diamond ring for a girlfriend! There is an enclosed card with a butterfly on it which is cute but it obviously was written by someone who was not very good in ENGLISH! I did not to use it but if I did I would have to change the wording (see photo.) I almost took away a star for this. My son was thrilled with the gift but the airport security was not. It had to be inspected so naturally this held us up. Just be aware of this if you fly with it. We have not changed the code from ILOVEU so I cannot speak to how easy or hard it is to change. Small tools are included to accomplish this but you are limited to 6 letters only. ILOVEU works for me!

The rings were cute and unexpected but don’t know what the engraving means so haven’t used them. Also came with chains so you can hang the rings around your neck, which was also unexpected!

I was looking for a unique gift and came across this. There was a great video that explains how it looks and feels, and how to reset the lock code if desired. The standard code to open the capsule is, “I love u” but with no spaces. If you desire to personalize the code, simple instructions, and a screwdriver are provided (you can also just watch the video on the main product page ). They have included a small tube of superglue and two extra screws!
There are three color/finish options which can provide additional personalization because this is such a unique and cool looking gift that it makes a great knickknack.
When the puzzle is opened, a “tube” is revealed that contains a small piece of foam sporting two rings, one silver finish one gold. To me, that’s just a suggestion as to what you can put inside. Included in the gift box are two chains that you can put around a ring or something small, so that if the tube is opened and engagement ring were inside, for example, it could be easily found if it fell. This makes more sense when you receive the product.
The product will arrive in a cardboard box so be careful if using a knife or scissors when opening so as not to damage the giftbox inside. The gift box is metallic and textured, also a gift in itself. It can be wrapped or presented as is. Inside the box you will find a cream-colored, blank card made of heavy card stock with a matching metallic butterfly and generic message on the front. My only complaint about this product is that the text contains a typo. However, the card was a bonus because I didn’t realize it was included. The catd comes in clear plastic packaging, which can be resealed. This comes in extra handy if you want to include a clue/clues to figure out the code. I cut six small pieces of paper, wrote letters on them to unscramble and sesled them in the card package.
Once the tube is opened, you have countless options for what to put inside, as long as it’s small. I have used money, a check and even created a scroll. Every time it’s been a hit. I am so happy with this product. I will definitely purchase again and again in the future.

I bought this for a gift and – wow – it’s actually made of metal and very heavy!! I am so impressed with this overall. I would say that the craftsmanship isn’t totally perfect…you can pull a bit on one side and it is a bit loosen ( but it does not open), but otherwise it is really great quality. Well worth the price!
