Oh, and let’s not forget that the gray and dark blue vests are only available in US men’s sizes, just to make things extra inconvenient. And don’t even get me started on the sizing charts – you better read THREE different charts carefully if you want to find the right size.

But wait, there’s more! This amazing vest also has THREE heated levels that you can select by pressing a button. Plus, the battery is rechargeable and can even power your cell phone, because that’s definitely a necessary feature. Oh, and did I mention that it can keep you warm for up to 10 hours? That’s right, you can enjoy the warmth all day long, whether you’re running in the snow or just sitting in your office.

But the best part? This vest is not just a fashion statement – it’s also a health care device! I have owned my PROSmart heated vest for two weeks now, and I am very happy I got it. As I get older, being warm and comfortable wherever I go becomes very important to me. This vest is soft, warm and comfortable even without the power turned on. But when the outside temperature starts to drop, I don’t have to worry. I find that even on cool days I can wear a t-shirt and be comfortable at the medium power level. Of course, if I wore the vest inside a windbreaker or other outer garment, I could easily get away with low power.

The battery gives me several hours of heat: the lower the setting, the longer the battery will last. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you how long the battery will last because I go back and forth between the power levels depending on what I need at the time. And sometimes I turn off the vest entirely because the fleece keeps me warm all by itself.

Yes, there are four heating elements as the illustration shows, but my favorite is in the collar. It feels so good when I first turn on the vest, and that warm radiant energy wraps around my neck.

The vest has three zippered, outer-pockets for your “stuff,” and one inner-pocket designed to house the battery. The battery isn’t very heavy, by the way. The power button is located on the inside-left, just below the collar. The battery connects to the vest via USB. It can be charged via the included USB cable, or using the 110 Volt power plug adapter. The battery can also be used to charge your phone or tablet. However, the battery is not designed to receive a charge while there is a load on it. In other words, you have to either be charging the battery or powering something with the battery, but you can’t do both at the same time.

The current PROSmart battery has a “sleep” state it will eventually fall into when there is no load on it. To wake it from this “sleep” state, you have to shake it vigorously (like you’re shaking a can of spray paint) for about 5 seconds before connecting it to the vest. Once connected, just press and hold the vest’s power button. The edges of the button will intermittently flash red for one to three seconds while you’re pressing it. Then the entire button will light brightly. At this time you can stop pressing the button (the vest is now on). The button will continue flashing bright red for 5 minutes. You don’t have to wait the entire 5 minutes before changing the power level. As soon as the button begins flashing bright red, you can release and press again to cycle through the different power levels.

When I bought my vest in early January 2020, the instructions didn’t say anything about the “shake-and-wake” procedure. But I simply e-mailed PROSmart who returned my e-mail within an hour or two, and they helped me troubleshoot the problem pretty quickly. They were very happy to answer my questions, and responded quickly every time. They wanted my future business, and it showed.

There are many brands of heating vests on the market, but this one had, in my opinion, the best combination of good reviews, reasonable price, and excellent customer service. Additionally, this vest can be powered by any number of aftermarket batteries as long as they are rated for output at 5V, 3 Amps, and input at 5V, 2 Amps. I own an Anker Power Core 26800 that works just fine. It’s way to big and heavy to fit inside the vest’s battery pocket, but it will definitely work.

So far, the vest seems well-made. The price is right, with other similar vests costing twice as much. I also REALLY like that this vest can be powered by any “power bank” that supplies 5V/2.1A, so I can use the bank I already have as a second power supply.

Fit: for the record, I’m 6’2″ and 235 pounds with pretty big shoulders. That said, the XL (the general size I would normally buy in shirts/jackets) is about as snug as I would prefer. I don’t mind it being snug in this case as the vest is meant to be an undergarment. I’m not ripped but I am reasonably fit: the arm holes are a bit smaller than I’d prefer. If you have really big shoulders or have wide lats, this could be an issue. On the plus side: the length of the vest is very nice for my height, riding a couple inches below my beltline.

Construction: so far, it seems quite good. No bad seams, all the zippers work well, the battery pocket is a separate one so you don’t have to have the power supply in your hand the whole time if you have your hands in the pockets.

Warmth: the vest does disappoint a bit with only having the two heating areas (one on the lower back, one on the upper back). The pad on the upper back is most noticeable as it is nearly always in contact with you. The pad on the lower back is less noticeable unless I’m sitting down and pressing back into the chair. I do feel warmer when wearing the vest under a jacket than I would without it; that said, I have trouble deciding just how much of that is due to the heaters and how much is just the fact that I have an extra layer in place. So, I do think it’s a nice piece of gear to have, but I wouldn’t expect to be able to assault the North Face of Everest, and expect it to truly keep me much warmer than the vest by itself. I would think that warming pads on the front of the vest would have created a more “surrounding” warmth.

Overall: good vest for the price. Watch the sizing, order a size up if you’re bulky at all or want to wear layers under the vest. Battery pack is versatile. Provides a sensation of warmth, but don’t count on it to roast you.

I’m super cold natured so I love the idea of a heated vest! I got this one because I hate feeling weighted down by my clothing. This vest should have been a win/win. But I’m conflicted about this vest. On one hand, I really like it. It’s comfortable, it’s not bulky, and it heats well. On the other hand, it’s frustrating. To wear it all day, I have to charge the battery 3 or 4 times during the day. Am I running it on high? Beats me. I can easily tell if it’s turned on but I cannot easily tell what setting I have it on. The controls are not intuitive.
So this vest is both fabulous and frustrating.
I would love to just get more batteries but my husband (who has a degree in electrical engineering, and works in industrial control systems) says the battery is “kinda funky” and he’s not sure how to find extras for me. I’m used to him solving these types of issues for me and the fact the he’s a bit baffled over this one frustrates me. He’s so baffled by this battery, he’s seriously contemplating just buying me a much more expensive heated vest.
So is it great, yup. Is it not great, also yup!

Made a huge difference with my winter riding. I just wear it under my jacket and throw it in the top box when its not so cold.

Battery could be better however you can pretty much just attach any usb power to this thing and warm yourself up.

I will never go back to hunting without this vest. Keeps me comfortable, even on the lowest setting. My biggest complaint is the location of the battery. It in on the left side of the vest and the pocket forces the battery to sit tall instead of wide, so if the vest is zipped and you bend to zip your boots, your ribs are met with a sharp stab from the battery pack. Battery life is average, I don’t use the vest on the high setting to avoid draining the battery too quickly. As far as sizes go, I would say true to size, with no stretch. Go up in size if you like a wiggle room.
