When I first received I sprayed under cold water all around for around 2 seconds and then immediately set on towel and wiped with paper towels and put into my WARM/100F in oven for15 min or so. I then took my time drying it out like it was in the desert again. Followed instructions, but I didn't run to oven exactly every 15 Min to turn up oven temp like instructions said. I probably took an extra .5 to 1 hour longer time period because I could and was doing other stuff too. Longer is better because trying to totally dry the thing out SLOWLY.<br>I used to cook for 1st time on a cheap camping stove and cooked some bacon on it to get it oiled up. Next I wiped most of grease off and cooked sirloin, shrimp, asparagus and fresh garlic on it; the results where awesome!!!! Just added pepper and that was all the seasoning I added so I could enjoy natural salt flavor.

My family absolutely loves the salt block! We have been using it on and off for about 2 months now. It definitely has both function and beauty. My hubby has had a lot of fun cooking with it and it makes grilled food so delicious! I was afraid things would be overly salty, but that is not the case. I pre-season things (without salt) and the block infuses a perfect salty flavor as the food cooks....SO WONDERFUL! They do provide a bit of instruction for how to slowly warm and use the block....which is extra awesome! My tip after using it, is to pre-heat it in the oven and then move it to the grill. That is easy to do with the carrying tray. You get much better temperature control in the oven. Warm it for 20 minutes at 200F for about 15 minutes at 300F and then about 15 minutes at 450F... After pre-heating, I carry it to the hot grill and it is ready to use immediately. I just drizzle a bit of olive oil on the block to help prevent sticking. It is a really wonderful block. Solid, heavy and great quality. It retains heat really well because of the weight and thickness. I find it really easy to clean up after use too. A little water and a scrubby sponge and it looks good as new. It is even smoother after use. This would also make a wonderful gift! My family has really enjoyed it!

Buyer beware. You’ll love this board but if you chop anything like tomatoes that are watery you WILL have salty tomatoes. I love the board but was not expecting the amount of salty flavoring I got when I chopped my tomatoes. I have also chopped up bell peppers and onions so far but it didn’t seem to gather the salty flavor. Study, easy to maintain and functional.
