The items that come in the box that are pretty decent: nice spring assisted folding knife, nice firesteel with its own striker, knife/spork combo that’s useful, LED flashlight that is focusable and an emergency foil blanket. The other items are a whole lot less useful, pen with glass breaker point, a small wire wood saw, key ring hanger, very basic fishing stuff, 550 cord bracelet with button compass and a credit card sized steel tool.
Now, this is what I did: took the pen and the foam inserts out of the box, added small ziploc of vaseline cotton balls, a Bic lighter wrapped with duct tape, 4 lengths of daisy chained 550 cord, improved the fishing stuff with several small sinkers, hooks, more braided line and several small lures, added a small first aid ziploc with bandaids and packets of triple antibiotic and a cotton cravat. I then took this box and placed it in a shoulder bag with a USGI poncho, a small cooking pot, a Mora knife, two made with hot water side dish packets of rice and pasta, a hatchet and a canteen. Now, I have something to work with.

My husband got two this Christmas, one for his truck and one for my car. He couldn’t wait to get into the set to see what he could play with immediately. Happy to have it as we live in the mountains and you just never know when that fishing line and hook will come in handy while you’re out exploring and hiking. It’s a very useful set of items to have in any vehicle and for any gender as well. Not cheaply made, will handle well when or if needed.
